Durg is situated in the south west part of the chhattisgarh, in th plains. It is located just east of the Seonath River. Durg is about 35 kilometers from the Raipur, the state capital. The city is an agricultural market and is heavily engaged in milling rice and pigeon peas. Durg is famous for its rich cultural heritage and its traditional folk dances, Raut Nacha and Pandwani, are enjoyed in all over central India. Durg gained importance as an industraial centre after the establishment of large steel plant at Bhilai. Industries include brass working and bell-metal working, oil pressing, mining, and weaving.

Maitribagh
Maitri Bagh literally means the "friendship garden", It features landscaped garden which is a joint initiative of Indian and Russian government. The highlights of Zoo are exotic animal and avian species, lake, toy trains and others.
Tandula Dam
The Dam is situated on the banks of the River Tandula and is located at a distance of 60 kms form Durg and 5 km from Balod. The dam project was completed in 1921. It is very famous picnic spot which attracts hundreds of tourists every year form all over the country.
Dhamdha
Prachin kila and and Mandir are the tourist highlights of this place. Facilities of hotels and lodges are available in the town for the tourists who can get there by road from the nearest railway station at Durg.
